TV/TIP - FAQ's

What is TV/TIP?

TriValley Teacher Induction Project (TV/TIP) is a consortium including Dublin, Livermore Valley Joint, Pleasanton Unified, Sunol Glen, and Castro Valley School districts. Participating teachers in the Induction Program experience enhanced professional growth and development building upon their teacher preparation program by participating in a rich and thoughtful induction process. Participating Teachers engage in reflective conversations with experienced Coaches and chart their own progress through the continuum of skills, knowledge, and abilities aligned to the California Standards for the Teaching Profession and State adopted academic student content standards (CSTP).

What are the benefits of being in TV/TIP?
TVTIP Benefits include:

  • Fulfillment of Induction requirements for a Clear Credential

  • Opportunity to earn College Credit
  • Advancement of instructional practices and assessment strategies

Who is eligible to participate in TV/TIP?
A teacher participates in the Induction Program if he or she:

  • Holds a Preliminary Credential and is in the first or second year of teaching.
    OR
  • Has completed a teaching internship and has applied for, or has received a Preliminary Credential.
    OR
  • Has completed a teacher preparation program out-of-state, is entering teaching in California Public Schools with 2 years or fewer of public school experience and has been granted a Preliminary Credential with a requirement to participate in an approved induction program in order to receive a Clear credential.

Is TVTIP a State approved BTSA Induction program?
Yes, TVTIP is a State approved BTSA Induction Program

What if I don’t have a teaching job next year?
You still are able to participate in year 2 of BTSA Induction when you are hired as the teacher of record in order to complete the Induction requirement for a clear credential.

What if I teach out of state and return?
You may participate in year 2 of BTSA Induction when you return as long as it is still within the expiration date on your preliminary credential. If you return after your expiration date, you may apply to the Commission for an extension.

What if I substitute next year?
You may not participate in BTSA Induction when you are substituting, you must be the teacher of record to complete the Induction requirement.

What if I don’t get a job and can’t do Year 2 of BTSA Induction to clear my credential within the five year window?
The state is now allowing teachers to apply for an extension up to 3 years to clear their credential.

What if I get a job in another district, what happens to this year of BTSA Induction?
Your year of BTSA Induction will transfer to your new district where you will participate in year 2 of BTSA. TVTIP transfers your BTSA files of participation to your new district.

If I have a Level 1 Educational Specialist Credential, can I clear my credential through TVTIP next year?
TVTIP is in the process of submitting an application to the Commission to be able to offer a clear credentialing pathway for Educational Specialist. Please email Cathy McCarthy, TVTIP secretary, at cmccarthy@pleasanton.k12.ca.us if you are interested in this possibility.
