6-12 Classroom Management Book Club
Conscious Classroom Management – “Unlocking the Secrets of Great Teaching”
by Rick Smith

Have an opportunity to engage in a book club to study Rick Smith’s book, “Conscious Classroom Management”. Brainstorm, plan and problem-solve around the area of classroom management with other 6-12 educators. Learn practical, teacher-friendly, research-supported suggestions for effectively managing any 6-12 classroom. Open to all secondary teachers.

A Strong Start to the School Year

Building relationships and effective communication begin at the opening bell. Getting to know students' interests, strengths, learning needs and abilities is essential for creating an effective learning environment and ensuring student achievement. In addition, building a positive working relationship with families is essential. One way is to set a positive tone by creating an effective Back-to-School Night presentation. During this session, learn strategies for getting to know students and creating a powerful back-to-school night presentation. Walk away with planning strategies, examples of Back To School Night agendas, and helpful tips.

Discovering Effective Homework Practices

What is effective homework? How much is enough? How can homework support classroom instruction? How does a teacher know that homework is supporting and/or extending learning? How much involvement should parents have in homework? In this workshop, participants will discover what currrent research says about effective homework practices. They will also learn how to prepare meaningful assignments and create routines for collecting and correcting homework.
